There are many factors that can lead to the cause and progression of wet AMD. Here are a few lifestyle changes that may benefit your vision and overall health.
Smoking
Smokers have a significantly greater risk of developing wet
AMD. Smoke restricts blood flow throughout the body and reduces the eye's ability to clean out waste that forms in the eye. And, the more you smoke, the faster your wet AMD may progress.
Diet
What is good for your heart and body is also good for your eyes. Having high cholesterol increases the risk of wet AMD.
You should try to eat foods high in antioxidants and vitamins A, C, and E, as well as beta-carotene, zinc, and copper. Carrots, broccoli, spinach, and other leafy greens are all good options.
Vitamins
If you're having trouble getting all the vitamins you need through your diet, you may want to try supplements.
Vitamins A, C, and E, beta-carotene, zinc, and copper may all help reduce the effects of AMD. Before taking any supplements, ask your doctor about the supplements that are right for you.
Sunlight
Sunlight may cause even more vision damage. You should avoid prolonged exposure to the sunlight and wear sunglasses whenever possible. Also, wet AMD is more common in people with light-colored eyes. Because they have less pigment in their eyes, they may be more sensitive to UV rays.
