Your Retina Specialist is your best resource when it comes to your vision. Working as a team with your Retina Specialist will help you make the best of your treatment.

Making the most of your partnership:

  • Attend all your scheduled appointments
  • Follow your Retina Specialist's instructions carefully
  • Use your Amsler grid weekly to check your vision
  • Immediately report any changes in your vision to your Retina Specialist

Following these tips will help your Retina Specialist evaluate your vision and make treatment decisions.


Monitor your vision

It's important to monitor your vision on a regular basis.

Here's how to use it:

  • Test each eye separately
  • Hold the grid in front of you—about 14 inches away
  • If you wear glasses for reading, leave them on while looking at the grid
  • Cover one eye and look directly at the dot in the center of the grid with your other eye

If you notice blurry or wavy lines, or dark or blank spots in either eye, call your Retina Specialist right away. This will help your Retina Specialist evaluate your vision and make treatment decisions.

Learn low-vision tips

Follow these vision tips

If you are experiencing vision loss, you can make some simple changes that will help you feel safer and more comfortable.

In the bathroom:

  • Use a bath mat with a different feel than the floor or tub. The texture change can help you enter and exit the bath safely
  • Have a grab bar installed in your tub or shower to help reduce the risk of slips or falls
  • Test the water temperature by turning on the cold water handle first. Always add and turn off the hot water first

In the bedroom:

  • Keep a lamp you can easily switch on and off from your bedside (such as a clap-on light)
  • Have a nightlight

In the living room:

  • Remove potential obstacles, such as coffee tables, footrests, and stools
  • Eliminate furniture that is constructed of glass and/or that blends in with the floor
  • Avoid glare-inducing furniture, or cover furniture with material to reduce this effect
  • Pin down area rugs to avoid tripping over them

In the kitchen:

  • Roll up your sleeves or wear short sleeves when cooking at the stove
  • Use pots and pans with heat-resistant handles and knobs
  • Turn handles inward when cooking to avoid accidents

What important safety information should I know about LUCENTIS?

You should not use LUCENTIS if you have an infection in or around the eye or are allergic to LUCENTIS or any of its ingredients.

LUCENTIS is a prescription medication given by injection into the eye, and it has side effects. LUCENTIS is not for everyone. Some LUCENTIS patients have had detached retinas and serious eye infections. If your eye becomes red, sensitive to light, or painful, or if you have a change in vision, call or visit your eye doctor right away.
